Foundations of Portas

Establishment

Portas was founded with a mission to transform the world through sport.

This vision was inspired by our founder's pivotal support for the 2005 bid for the London 2012 Olympics & Paralympic Games and the creation of the games' legacy strategy aimed at inspiring a generation.

Recognising an opportunity for world-class management consultancy in the sports sector, Portas was created to offer expert and ongoing support to senior leaders.

Our approach combines a fun and exciting work environment with a developmental culture, all while adhering to the highest professional standards and integrity.

Our orange and blue branding and ripple logo were established to represent our unique, people-centric culture at the heart of a pioneering sports consultancy.

2007

2007-2009: Beginning of Global Expansion

Portas’ early expansion was initiated through partnerships with corporate clients and various federations, marking a significant milestone as the company embarked on its first international project. This venture enhanced our reputation in the global marketplace, while demonstrating our capability to manage and execute international projects, paving the way for further global opportunities.

2010

2010-2012: Diversification

Portas expanded our portfolio by branching into different sports such as tennis, golf, and motorsport, and in growing sectors like media. This diversification allowed the company to tap into new markets and leverage our expertise across new domains. It opened opportunities for innovation and collaboration within a dynamic and fast-paced industry and set the foundation for geographic expansion.

2013

2013-2014: Growth in International Reach

Portas expanded our operations into Brazil, motivated by projects geared to prepare the country for the Rio Olympics and beyond. This strategic move allowed the company to establish a presence in the region and contribute to the growing sports market. By engaging in these projects, Portas showcased existing IP and knowledge, further developing our expertise and strengthening our global footprint and reputation.

2015

2015: Middle East Milestones

Portas forayed into the Middle East in early 2015 with the formation of a National Participation Strategy for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This groundbreaking and impactful project paved the way for further visionary initiatives and programmes, including the development of a comprehensive Women's Sport Strategy for the Kingdom. Portas also played a crucial role in crafting the sport strategy that became an integral part of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. These wide-ranging projects highlighted the company’s growing expertise across the sports landscape and underscored our commitment to fostering partnerships, growth, and development in the region—to Transform the World through Sport.

2016

2016-2018: Expanding Horizons

Portas' international operations grew swiftly, with teams deployed in Mauritius, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Dubai. These teams engaged in a wide array of projects, ranging from the formation of national sports policies and grassroots strategies to the development of elite sports programmes and the organisation of major events. This rapid expansion not only demonstrated the company’s versatility and expertise across different regions but also underscored its commitment to fostering sports development at all levels.

2019

2019-2023: Formation of Portas Group

This period of global expansion culminated in the establishment of Portas Group. Between 2019 and 2023, we successfully established offices and business operations in key locations such as Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Tokyo. This strategic growth not only enhanced our international presence, but also enabled us to better serve our clients across different regions. By establishing a strong foothold in these major cities, Portas positioned itself as a leading player in the global sports industry, capable of delivering comprehensive solutions and driving innovation worldwide.

2024

By 2024, Portas evolved into a truly diverse global team

We grew to 160+ specialised consultants and support staff, working alongside more than 30 global experts from 29 nationalities, speaking 18 languages and serving 40 different countries.

2025

2025

In 2025, Portas was acquired by Creative Artists Agency (CAA), the world’s leading sports and entertainment agency, marking the start of an ambitious new chapter as CAA Portas

The partnership brings fresh momentum and a broader platform for delivering transformational work across sport worldwide.
